Welcome To The Piarco
FIR
(Virtual)
The Piarco Flight Information region FIR/CTA ,is situated in the Caribbean Region.It is responsible for the
provision of Air Traffic services within the airspace above Trinidad and Tobago and its international borders. Itis also responsible
for the other Terminal airspace over the Eastern Caribbean, ranging from mid-Caribbean to mid-Atlantic (see left). From the
island of Antigua in the north to Trinidad the south.Sharing borders with San Juan Oceanic FIR, Peurto Rico, Maquetia FIR,Venezuela,Georgetown
FIR, Guyana, Paramaribo FIR, Surinam, Rochambeau FIR, French Guyana, Daka FIR, Senegal, Sal Oceanic, Cape Verde, Santa Maria
FIR, Portugal,and New york Oceanic,USA. Covering the entire Eastern Caribbean Region and a range of some 750,000 square miles.It
consists of five major TMA's,V.C Bird Antigua, Le Raizet Guadeloupe (fr),Le Lametin Martinique (fr), Grantley Adams Barbados,and
Piarco Trinidad. All of which except Barbados, is responsible for sub control zones within their boundaries and international
borders.And so proper co-ordination is a key aspect when controlling in the Piarco FIR. Two of these TMA's are French Nationals
Guadeloupe and Martinique , and are governered by French law within thier international and TMA borders from
surface up to and including Flight Level 245.Except over the islands of Dominica where Canefield and Mellville Hall Tower
has Control up to 7000ft.
Piarco FIR is can be considered to be the central nervous sytem of air traffic control in the Eastern Caribbean,
and unites all the caribbean.
